Growing Your Nails Back After Acrylics: A Recovery Guide
By the Beeliar Nails team · 13 August 2026
Taken your acrylics off and found soft, bendy, slightly sad nails underneath? Don't panic — this is completely normal, and with the right care your natural nails will be back to full strength as they grow out. Here's the recovery plan we give our own clients.
Step one: remove them properly
How acrylics come off matters more than almost anything that follows. Prying, biting or peeling them away rips layers off the natural nail plate — that's what causes the worst thinning. A professional soak-off removal ($25 at our salon) dissolves the product gently and leaves your nail plate intact, even for sets done elsewhere.
Step two: protect while they grow
Freshly exposed nails are thinner than usual and prone to splitting at the slightest catch. Keep them short — genuinely short — for the first few weeks, and consider a BIAB overlay ($70): a flexible strengthening layer that shields the regrowth so it can reach a workable length without snapping off along the way.
If you'd rather go product-free, a nourishing strengthener polish and rigorous shortness will get you there too — it just asks for more patience.
Step three: oil, gloves, patience
Cuticle oil once or twice a day is the single highest-value habit — it keeps the new growth flexible and the surrounding skin healthy. Gloves for dishes and cleaning protect against the swelling-and-drying cycle that splits weak nails.
Timeline-wise: a fingernail replaces itself completely in around four to six months. You'll see noticeably stronger growth within six to eight weeks, and by the halfway mark most clients have forgotten there was ever a problem.
