BIAB vs SNS: Which One Should You Book?

By the Beeliar Nails team · 13 August 2026

It's the question we answer most at the salon: "what's the difference between BIAB and SNS, and which should I get?" Both add strength and gorgeous colour, both last for weeks — but they're built differently, they feel different on the nail, and each suits a different kind of hand and lifestyle.

What each one actually is

BIAB — Builder In A Bottle — is a flexible builder gel painted onto your natural nail in thin layers and cured under a lamp. It stays slightly flexible once set, so it moves with your nail rather than sitting rigid on top.

SNS is a dip powder system: your nails are coated with a bonding base, dipped into finely milled coloured powder, then sealed. No lamp is needed, and the finish is a touch firmer and more rigid than BIAB.

How they feel and look

BIAB wins on the natural look — it's lightweight, glossy and closer to "your nails, but better." If you like a short-to-medium length and want people to think you were simply born with good nails, BIAB is your match.

SNS carries colour beautifully — the pigment is in the powder itself, so shades come out rich and full. It also adds a little more bulk and rigidity, which some clients love for the feeling of solid strength.

Strength, wear time and removal

Both systems comfortably last two to three weeks. BIAB is the pick for weak, peeling or brittle nails because its flexibility absorbs everyday knocks instead of cracking — and it's refillable, so the regrowth gap gets filled rather than the whole set replaced.

SNS is removed fully each visit and reapplied fresh. Removal for both is a gentle soak-off at the salon — never peel either one off yourself, as that's how natural nails get damaged.

The verdict

Choose BIAB if your nails are weak or you want the most natural finish that grows out gracefully with refills. Choose SNS if bold, saturated colour and a firmer feel are your priority. Price-wise they're nearly identical at our salon — BIAB full sets are $80 with $60 refills, and SNS full sets are $70 — so let your nails, not your budget, make the call.

Still unsure? Ask your technician at the start of your appointment — a quick look at your natural nails usually settles it in seconds.
