What it actually is
In plain terms
SNS takes its name from Signature Nail Systems, the brand that popularised the technique — most technicians now use “SNS” as shorthand for dip powder nails generally. Instead of a brush-on gel or polish, your natural nail is coated in a bonding base and then dipped or brushed into a finely milled coloured powder, repeated for full opacity, then sealed with a top coat.
Because it's powder rather than liquid polish, the colour goes on extremely solid and opaque — often in a single application — and it doesn't need curing under a UV/LED lamp the way gel and BIAB do. It adds a little strength on top of your natural nail without the thickness of acrylic.
How it feels
Lighter than acrylic, with a smooth, slightly firmer finish than shellac.
How long it lasts
Typically 3–4 weeks with rich, chip-resistant colour throughout.
No lamp required
Cures by air rather than UV/LED — good if you'd rather skip the lamp.
