What it actually is
In plain terms
A French tip is a two-tone design: a soft natural or nude base colour across the nail, with a distinct tip colour — classically white — painted or applied in gel along the free edge (the part that grows past your fingertip). It's a finishing design rather than a nail system on its own, so it's added on top of whichever base service you choose: shellac, BIAB, SNS or a full acrylic set.
The classic thin white tip is only the starting point. Popular variations include a fine "micro-French" line, a bold reverse French (colour at the base instead of the tip), coloured tips instead of white, and statement prints like leopard or zebra French straight from our gallery.
Classic or modern
The traditional white tip, or a coloured, reverse or micro-French twist.
Works with any base
Added as a design over shellac, BIAB, SNS or an acrylic full set.
Suits any length
Just as sharp on short natural nails as on a long full set.
