What it actually is
In plain terms
Feet tend to get ignored until sandal weather arrives, and by then the hard skin has had months to build up. A pedicure starts with a warm soak to soften everything, moves on to exfoliation to lift away dead skin, then focused callus work on the heels and the balls of the feet. Toenails are cut, filed and shaped, cuticles are tidied, and it all finishes with a massage and the polish you've picked.
Toes hold their colour far longer than fingers do — they aren't being washed, typed with or knocked about all day. That makes the shellac upgrade particularly worthwhile down here: $10 above the standard pedicure buys a lamp-cured finish that keeps its gloss for weeks rather than chipping within days of leaving the salon.
